The Gas Storage Proposal

A natural gas storage facility has been proposed for Cote Blanche Island adjacent to our underground miners. We oppose the proposal because of its serious safety risks.

North American Salt Company, owner of the mine, filed a technical analysis of the proposal's safety risks with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in July 2009. In May 2010, we filed a second technical analysis refuting claims by Henry Gas Storage there are existing facilities similar to what they're proposing. We also have filed a comment seeking more information about the proposal, and an economic assessment.

We believe all potential risks, impacts and concerns must be carefully studied in the most thorough manner.
